Dove Day Peace Club (DDPC)

Since inception Insan Foundation Pakistan (IFP) has been working for the cause of pro-human society by focusing on children and youth. As the result of increasing tension between India and Pakistan and growing religious fanaticism within Pakistan, IFP has been giving major focus on the education and training of youth on the issues of peace and tolerance. Training workshops with teachers and students, walks, seminars, publications and street theater are some of the major activities in this regard.

After September 11, the world was confused and religious fanatics were making it the issue of Islam. At the same time the western media had turned jaundiced eye towards Pakistan and every Pakistani was being projected as Fanatic Jihadi. At that moment Insan Foundation, having the objective to engage peaceful people, especially youth, in the peace building process, initiated a project under the title “Dove Day Peace Campaign”. Under this campaign Insan Foundation’s street theater called Insan Naatak made performances on the issue of peace. After the performance the group released Dove cutouts in the air with gas balloons with messages of peace on the doves. Whoever brought back the dove and agreed on the agenda of peace became member of Dove Day Peace Campaign. This campaign drew attention of general public to the issue and importance of peace in the form of membership, which was open for everyone who believed in peace. This campaign has been spread to many countries of Asia and Canada also.

At later stage Insan Foundation re-designed the strategy of membership by selling notebooks under the title “Peace Notes” containing membership forms as inserts. This strategy proved to be very effective. This pilot project was targeting only youth from Lahore. Unexpectedly, we received request forms from other cities and towns as well around Lahore. By now we have received more than 500 applications.

Insan Foundation Pakistan visualizes a great potential in this youth, regarding the future endeavors for peace. IFP is planning to involve these groups in its mass advocacy campaigns and in grass root activism for peace.
IFP has recently started a national project on peace Education. Under this project IFP will be engaging almost 28000 high schools students. Before entering into that phase Insan Foundation wants to formalize the membership of Dove Day Peace Club and have consultation with youth for the next year’s plan.
